The Story Behind Amber's Creations

Welcome to Amber’s Creations Blog. I am Amber, the owner and operator. I created this business to help women find clothing that is comfortable and a joy to wear. I generally hate clothing that is sold in stores because they are too restrictive and never the same size. I have found that even in one style the size can vary dramatically. So, I went on a mission to find fabric and patterns that I would enjoy wearing. I found fabric that felt very soft and had some stretch to it and found the perfect patterns. I whipped up that first dress and fell in love with making clothes that I enjoyed wearing. I feel all women need to have clothing that is not restrictive and a pleasure to wear.

A little bit about me. I am a wife and mother of 3 children and 5 cats. My oldest daughter is 20, my middle daughter is 19, and my son is 17 and the baby in the family. I have rescued 3 of my 5 cats and found us. I have lived in four different states in my life. I have found home in Minot, ND and we plan on never leaving. The cold has taken some getting used to, but it is home for us.

The journey to creating this company came from a very tough year. To start the year off in 2019 we found out that my father-in-law was looking to find a new home. We decided that he would come live with our family as his health was a concern of ours if he lived on his own. So, we set out to find a bigger home. During this time, I had lost a lot of weight and in March of 2019 I found out that I had pre-cancer on my cervix. At the end of April, we moved into a bigger home and brought my father-in-law to our home from NY. Then in May of 2019 I had a hysterectomy to rid my body of the cancer. In July it was confirmed that I am cancer free. During this time, I started gaining weight again and felt healthier. In July my husband had a bad bicycle accident. From that accident he broke 4 transverse processes of the vertebrae in his neck, broke his hand and had a traumatic brain injury. During his recovery I received news that I have non celiac gluten intolerance and must go gluten free. During the last part of 2019 I got back into sewing as a hobby and something to do in between doctor appointments and therapy appointments. At this point my husband was diagnosed with acquired ADHD along with the brain injury and has been learning what he needs to do to work around his injuries. Then in 2020 Covid hit, and I was asked by my job to go on a leave of absence to preserve jobs and I agreed. I started to really think about sewing full time and started to make clothing for me and my family. This led to me getting a projector just for sewing. The projector led to me being able to create beautifully comfortable clothing quicker and easier. This came at just the right time as I needed a new wardrobe. In May my middle daughter graduated from High School and went to basic training for the Army. She has graduated and gotten to her first duty station. Towards the end of the year, I was encouraged to start selling the clothing I was making. As I pursued this Amber’s Creations was born. The name was a fluke and a placeholder for a different name that had not come to me at that point. I was talking to my middle daughter, and she loved the name, so I kept it.

During the last year we have experienced a lot of ups and downs. My son at the age of 17 was diagnosed as having Level one Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, and ADHD. My husband is considered disabled and cannot work so he has his own hobby that keeps him busy. My father-in-law passed away recently and has hit us all hard. We continue to work through the grief while keeping to a schedule. My son will graduate this school year and is looking into colleges. His hope is to become a law officer. My middle daughter is doing well in the military and is stationed in Texas at this time. My oldest daughter is doing well and will be giving me my first granddaughter. We are all super excited.

My vision of my company is to give women clothing that you won't want to throw off at the first possible moment. I will be expanding the woman's clothing to include maternity and nursing mom apparel by the end of the year. In the next 5 years I envision being able to expand to include children's clothing as well as men’s clothing. In 10 years, I envision being able to offer a wide range of clothing that is comfortable, versatile, and a pleasure to wear. I want all people to feel comfortable in clothing and feel wonderful about wearing them. My clothing can be worn all day and all night with minor changes to either dress up or down. Add jewelry, a belt, or even a scarf to dress the outfit up or wear as is for a casual look.
